The Impact Build program is a short-term service and learning experience where you can volunteer abroad with Global Impact Builds.
All programs vary based on the location and itinerary, but all of them offer a mix of work, team building, cultural activities, and fun. You will not only work in partnership with the community to build or improve homes and communities, but you will also have the opportunity to spend time within the local community and receive an unique experience.
Impact Builds range from $1,300 to $1,800USD per person. This includes lodging, in-country transportation, meals, materials and labor towards the project, cultural activities, medical insurance, and a subsidy towards the team leader's travel.
You must be 18 or older, or be accompanied by a family member 18 or older. You must be a team player and understanding to other cultures and their customs. No professional or technical experience is needed, however, manual labor is a part of the job. There is no minimum requirement of work volunteers must do each day, but a positive attitude is a must on and off the job site.
Yes, you may fundraise by directing your friends, colleagues, and family to donate on the Global Impact Homes site. You can also set up a facebook fundraiser through the Global Impact Homes facebook page and send to your facebook friends.
Global Impact Homes is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, tax-exempt corporation. For many US citizens the program is a tax donation. We recommend you speak to a tax professional for current rules and interpretations.
Each build is unique, but most projects involve working with wood, bricks, or concrete. It's possible that you will be mixing cement, laying bricks, installing a roof, doors, walls, or windows, doing plumbing or electrical work, putting in tile floors, painting, You can expect to see big changes from Day 1 to Day 5 of the project as we work alongside a local construction crew of usually two to six people.
Outside of the project we will embark on cultural activities that could include learning about the community in which we are working, walking tours, visiting local attractions, and having free time to explore the city.
Volunteers' safety is a top priority. We will do everything in our power to keep everyone safe, including following travel advisories and working with a local organization that can guide us on procedures to follow. Each volunteer must know their own limitations when it comes to the work site, and take precautions outside of the work site just as they would in any other place in the world.
Before applying, make sure that your passport is up-to-date. Check in advance to see what visas you may need to visit the country for which you are applying.
